Osteoarthritis is a disease than can affect any joint. It consists in wear to the cartilage, which is the covering of the joint surfaces.
Cartilage is a highly resistant, smooth and elastic tissue that allows the joint to move with little friction; however, it wears away over time, and cannot be renewed or repaired.
